INDICOLITE
Indicolite tourmaline is a prized variety of elbaite, known for its striking blue hues ranging from soft sky blue to deep ocean tones, often with a slight greenish tint due to traces of iron. Its strong pleochroism causes it to appear in different shades depending on the viewing angle, making cutting a challenge to maximize color and brilliance. With a hardness of 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale, it is both durable and suitable for jewelry, though treated stones require special care. Found in pegmatite deposits worldwide, with top sources including Brazil, Namibia, and Madagascar, indicolite remains a rare and highly sought-after gem.
